Christians Are Overcomers!

They overcame him by way of the blood of the lamb and through the phrase in their testimony. (Rev. 12:eleven)

The Bible is clear that we're to be overcomers. But what does that suggest? What does being an overcomer seem like in our day by day lives? According to scripture, there seem

to be 3 main categories that we need to triumph over: the world, the flesh, and the satan.

About 15 years after I have become a believer, and even after I had advanced a terrific handle on my spiritual identification, I stopped quick whilst studying John 16:33: "I have told you this stuff, so that in me you could have peace. In this international you may have problem. But take heart! I even have conquer the arena." I study this verse again and again once more. I knew that God

became talking to me, however I wrestled with what He changed into attempting to mention. Finally, I admitted, "I do not understand what this means, Lord. Please show me."

For 4 months, there was silence, however I persevered to press in to understand. Finally, the knowledge came. It did now not come to me through words, however through pics in my thoughts--pictures of Jesus overcoming the entirety inside the fleshly realm: overcoming people's lack of religion in Him; overcoming the pain and disgrace of going to the go; overcoming the lack of affection in the international; overcoming the unbiased spirit within the world by constant fellowship with His heavenly Father. With this sudden burst of perception, I proclaimed, "I believe! I trust you're the overcomer of the world!" Jesus immediately spoke back, "Now which you consider, you're an overcomer of the arena."

Overcoming the World

My end is that, to be an overcomer of the arena, you have to consider John 16:33. Jesus overcame the world. Therefore, if we are to emulate Jesus, we are to triumph over the arena, too. This has proven hard for many believers, but I am convinced that that is because most sincerely don't understand what it means to be overcomers--or even that we are alleged to be overcomers. Either this, or we are too busy having fellowship with the sector to hassle overcoming it.

So the first step in overcoming is renouncing and repenting of our love of the world. Just do not forget what God has to say about love of the world: Do now not love the sector or some thing inside the global. If absolutely everyone loves the world, the love of the Father isn't always in him. For the whole thing in the global--the cravings of sinful guy, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes no longer from the Father but from the sector. The world and its dreams pass away, but the man who does the need of God lives all the time. (1 John 2:15-17)

We will be inclined to love the world. But just as the scriptures are clear that we can't love both God and cash, we can't love both the arena and God. As believers in Jesus, we ought to research to conquer the arena, not embody it. You might not assume you adore the world, however let's take into account those few examples: Do you share the gospel together with your buddies? If no longer, why no longer? Are you frightened of what they might think? If so, you then love the approval of the sector greater than the things of God. Is there program on tv that has content you understand that God disapproves of, but you watch it anyway? If so, then you definately love the things of the sector greater than honoring your heavenly Father. Do you figure past due, trying to gain financial safety, despite the fact that you know that your courting with your spouse and youngsters is suffering? If so, you then love the security of the sector more than you adore the safety furnished by the excellent I AM.

Heart -Check Your Desires

Overcoming the world starts with knowing our personal fears and dreams. The Psalmist wrote: "Delight yourself in the LORD and he will come up with the goals of your coronary heart"

(Psalm 37:four). And in Matthew 6:18-33, Jesus talks about the natural fears that humans have approximately assembly their material needs, however says that God is aware of that we've got want of these items, so we have to "searching for first his country and his righteousness, and all these things [food, shelter, and clothing] may be given to you as well." There is an essential precept in each of these verses. Seek first the dominion of God, then your every day needs can be met. Delight inside the Lord, then He will give you the desire of your heart. It all starts offevolved with doing His will first, in advance of your personal.
